Year 2 Weekly Blog (19. 3. 21)
Date: 17th Mar 2021 @ 11:42am
This week, Year 2 have been continuing their Superheroes topic. They have created some fabulous skyline pictures: painting a pale blue sky, then cutting out and sticking on pieces of newspaper to create the skyscrapers in their skyline. The children then used a black marker to outline these buildings to make them stand out; each child has created their own unique city-skyline, replete with buildings of different shapes - some tall and thin, some wide and short!
On Wednesday afternoon, the children conducted a science investgiation to see how different objects absorb and repel water; they were each given a little bit of water and a syringe and a variety of objects to investigate whether they were absorbant or not. We were all very impressed with how diligent and careful the children were as they completed their experiments - we only had a few minor spillages!
On Thursday, both classes went on a Spring walk around the school looking for signs of Spring, and then recording what they saw, felt, heard and could smell. After this activity, the children each had an opportunity to further practise their drawing skills, drawing and colouring in daffodils.
Finally, the children have thought and discussed the Easter story throughout the course of the week. They have watched different re-tellings of the Last Supper, Peter's Denial, and they have listened to the story of Easter from our class Bible. On Monday afternoon, the children investigated how we all celebrate Easter in different ways, and also the different parts of Holy Week in greater detail - from Palm Sunday through to Easter Sunday.
Next week is our final one before the Easter break - but there are lots of exciting things on the horizon. 2M have their Golden Ticket celebration on Wednesday and 'Superhero Day' is on Thursday - get ready to dust off your costumes!
Enjoy the weekend, Year 2!
