Year 2 Weekly Blog (23.09.22)

Date: 23rd Sep 2022 @ 2:26pm

We've had a lovely week in year 2. We began our week looking at Formby and what makes it a special place - we talked about the red squirrels, the pinewoods and the beach. The children had some brilliant input.

In Maths this week we have began introducing column addition to the children, which you will see they have brought home for their homework. We will continue to go over this in class, but so far the children are doing brilliantly!

In PE we continued with gymnastics and invasion games. In gymnastics this week we looked at travelling in a zag zig, the children had some great ideas of how to travel across a mat and then how to travel across a bench in a zig zag also.

In Art this week we looked at different items we could find around school to create art with, we were unfortunately unable to go out hunting for them due to the rain. Once we had discussed this we did two different types of drawings - a continious drawing, where the children were unable to take their pencil off the page and a feely drawing. We gave the children different objects such as shells, branches and pinecones for them to feel and touch with their eyes closed. They then drew what they thought they had infront of them, again with their eyes closed. We had some lovely pieces created!

Thank you very much to everyone that came to meet the teacher evening, we hope we answered all your questions! If you were unable to make it we have popped a leaflet into your child's book bag with everything we covered, and have also uploaded the Powerpoint we used on the evening to the Year 2 page. We have also uploaded the Read, write Inc book band levels as requested. If you have any questions at all, please don't hestitate to get in touch. Thank you again for all of the support, we're going to have a great year!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
