Year 2 Weekly Blog (25. 3. 22)

Date: 22nd Mar 2022 @ 10:30am

The sun has really started to shine this week and we have all had a lovely week in school - our penultimate one before the Easter break.  We can't believe that we're almost in the final term of the year - it seems like just yesterday the children were starting their Year 2 journey, and in no time at all, we find ourselves sprinting towards the Easter break!  We are all very proud of all the children across the year group!

On Monday, the children started to think about a new topic in maths: 3D shapes.  The children have been exploring different 3D shapes and thinking carefully about the properties of cylinders, cuboids, cubes and lots of other shapes!  The children have thought about faces, vertices and edges, and used this learning to help them identify, describe and organise different 3D shapes.  On Monday afternoon, the children started constructing their Superhero vehicles: using their imagination to get very creative, decorating their boxes with paint, sparkly paper and lots of other accoutrements.  They have continued with this project throughout the week and we have been very impressed with how they have turned out!

On Tuesday afternoon, the children wrote their own riddles.  The children were tasked with writing a riddle related to one of their favourite superheros.

In P.E., the children enjoyed the sunshine on Wednesday afternoon running relay races, and continuing to hone their bouncing, jumping and throwing skills in a circuit of fun activities.  We were all very impressed with some super springy bouncing, and fast sprinting!

The children have also spent time this week learning about the Easter story; we are all looking forward to visiting church next week for the Easter service.

Enjoy the sunshine and see you next week for the final one before the break!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
