Year 2 Weekly Blog (27. 5. 22)

We have had another great week in Year 2.
This week, the children have finished making their 'Tudor houses' - complete with a bucket to help 'put the fire out'! The children attached a bucket to their house with a 'wind-up mechanism'; they created this mechanism using a piece of dowling - which they had to measure and cut to size with a hacksaw - they then carefully threaded this piece of wood through their cereal box. Following the completion of this DT project, the children have spent time throughout the week writing instructions how they created their house: using bossy verbs to very precisely describe what they had to do to create their magnificent houses.
As well as getting busy with the DT project, throughout the week the children have also been continuing to learn about the world and where we live during their geography lessons. We have been very impressed with what the children already know: the names of the continents, countries and capitals. The children have learned about the differences between the northern and southern hemisphere, and also all about the equator; they have also been learning about the contintent we live in (Europe), and also about what a landmark is - the classes then looked at a variety of notable landmarks from around Europe.
On Tuesday, the children had another superb music lesson with Gafro - practising their drumming skills, working in teams to play different rhythms at the same time and having great fun. Both classes have really impressed Gafro over the past 6 weeks of their drumming lessons - well done, Year 2!
We hope you all have a great half-term break and look forward to the final half-term in Year 2 before the summer break.
