Year 2 Weekly Blog (28. 5. 21)

Date: 27th May 2021 @ 9:12am

We have had a lovely end to the term this week.  Each class has enjoyed a sunny golden ticket reward afternoon, finished their DT projects and having lots of fun inbetween.

The children have spent the week in maths revising their core skills of column addition and subtraction and playing lots of maths games to practise their multiplication skills.  We are all very impressed with how the children have learned their 2s, 5s and 10 times tables.

In science, the children have revisited the topics that were covered last year to make sure they are ready for the final half-term where they will be focusing their learning around science.  Even though their learning was disrupted in Year 1, the children showed they knew lots of different things about animals.  They shared their knowledge of different types of animals, and the difference between mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians.  The children also thought about omnivores, carnivores and herbivores, what each term means, and the diets that different animals follow.

In P.E., the children have spent the week practising their hand-eye coordination skills with a Speed Stack competition; each child had an opportunity to see how quickly they could complete the ‘3, 3, 3’ stack and we were amazed at their speed and enthusiasm.  All of the children have thoroughly enjoyed practising with the Speed Stacks, and even enjoyed a Speed Stack relay race during indoor P.E. on Wednesday afternoon.

We hope you all have an enjoyable and relaxing half-term holiday and hope you come back to school in June ready and raring to go for the final few weeks in school before the summer break.  We can’t believe how quickly the year as gone!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
