Year 2 Weekly Blog (29. 4. 22)
Date: 28th Apr 2022 @ 9:23am
This week in Maths, the children have started to learn about time; they have been thinking about 'o'clock', 'half past', 'quarter past' and 'quarter to'. The classes have been using clocks to practise their skills and we have been very impressed with how careful and precise they have been with their learning - especially as this topic in Maths if often very tricky!
On Monday afternoon, the children thought about their new topic for this term: The Great Fire of London; the children thought about how the city of London has changed since 1666. The children have also been learning about the UK - thinking about the different countries, flags, capital cities and seas that surround our island.
On Tuesday, both classes continued their drumming lessons with Gaffro - our expert percussion teacher who has been coming to teach drumming at St Luke's for many years. Like last week, the children all amazed Gaffro with their skills: listening to instructions carefully, and playing together at the same tempo. This week, the children continued to practise a rhythm that they learned last week - 'thunder, pitter patter, thunder, splash!'
In P.E., the children have been practising their cricket bowling skills, and, on Thursday, as the hall was being used for school photographs, the children got the chance to use the Speed Stacks again. On Thursday afternoon, the children also started work planting vegetables in the growing troughs that are outside each classroom; over the coming months, all of the children will be taking turns to look after the vegetables to make sure they are well watered and maintained.
We hope you all have an enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend and look forward to seeing you next Tuesday!
