Year 2 Weekly Blog (4. 9. 20)
Date: 4th Sep 2020 @ 10:04am
We have all had a great first week back in Year 2. It was great to see so many smiling faces on Wednesday morning and we hope that all the children have enjoyed their first few days in their new classes. Miss McGarvey and Mrs Groom have loved getting to know the children, and can't wait to spend the next year together.
The focus of the first three days back in school has been all about settling back into the rhythm of the school day, learning the new rules to keep us all safe, and having fun. The entire school have been thinking about our mental health, and Year 2 have approached this by thinking carefully about each other and our place in the world, and also the wider universe - 2G really impressed Mrs Groom with their extensive knowledge of the solar system: the names of planets and their position within the solar system! This learning has been linked with a special book called 'Here We Are' which all of the children in the school are exploring in different ways. Both classes have had lots of class discussions where the children have been able to express how they are feeling, and also having an opportunity for them to get to know their teachers, and for Mrs Groom and Miss McGarvey to learn about them, as well!
As well as beginning to practise their key maths skills, the children have been thinking very hard about our world, what makes it special, and how we would describe it to an alien visitor. What kinds of things are important to us? Both classes came up with lots of great ideas and from these discussions, have started to write a short booklet that they would give to their alien visitor as a 'guide to Earth' - should they ever visit! They even had the chance to create their alien visitor with play-doh! Take a look at the wide variety of weird and wonderful creations here!
Please note that P.E. lessons will start next week. 2G and 2M will both be having their lessons on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please make sure that they come to school in their P.E. kit on those days; they will stay in their kit throughout the day. Please also remember to make sure your child comes to school every day with a waterproof coat.
We hope you all have a great weekend - see you on Monday!
