Year 2 Weekly Blog (5. 11. 21)

Date: 3rd Nov 2021 @ 2:13pm

We have had a great week back in school after the half term break - we hope that you all had a good rest at home.

This week, the childern have started their new topic: Celebrations Around the World.  During the next few weeks they will be learning all about how people around the world celebrate different things: Bonfire Night, Diwali, Christmas, Thanksgiving.  This week, they have thought carefully about Bonfire Night, learning all about the history behind why Bonfire Night is celebrated in the UK.  The children have created some wonderful bonfire collage pictures, written instructions for how to be careful and safe whilst using a sparkler safely, and also using Purple Mash to create some really effective, colourful and wonderful firework pictures.

In P.E., the children have started a new topic of learning: practising their fine motor skills by bouncing and catching balls; and also practising movement skills: dodging in and out of flying soft balls - thrown by the teachers!  The children had a great time on Wednesday afternoon - particularly when faced with the challenge of trying to dodge out of the way of the flying softballs.

In Maths, the children have started to learn about multiples with a focus on learning their 2 and 5 times tables; they have used counters to show equal groups of 2 and 5 and work out multiplication questions.  We are really impressed with how all of the children have been able to engage with this new area of maths, and we will be continuing to learn these multiplication facts in the forthcoming weeks.

Enjoy the weekend and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday morning!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
