Year 2 weekly blog

Date: 27th Jun 2024 @ 9:29pm

It's been a very EGGCITING week in year 2! Our living eggs arrived on Monday and the first chick hatched on Wednesday! All 10 have now hatched and the excitment in both classrooms is very high! The children helped to change the brooding box today and handled the chicks with care, they cannot wait for more opportunities to hold and care for them next week. Throughout the week the children have been keeping a chick diary, updating it each day with chick news.

In English this week we started looking at the poem "If I were in charge of the world" and the children have started a modelled write of their own poem, with a grammar focus on contractions, stanza's and repetition. We have looked at world leaders and thought about what makes a good leader, also discussing all the things we would change if we were in charge. Some very interesting ideas, like Taylor Swift tickets would be sold for £2.00, asthma and hayfever wouldn't exist, school uniform would be cancelled and fishy Friday would become Nando's Fridays! As you can imagine, the children have been really enjoying this!

During Maths we have been solving word problems and using bar models and column method to do so. Using bar models can be really tricky at first, but the children have worked really hard to understand and use this important method.

In Topic we have been investigating different food chains, looking at where they begin and where they end and what habitats these animals would be found.

2GN had their golden ticket celebration this week and we had a brilliant, VERY WET afternoon enjoying our water fight. I have made a short video of our water fight, which I am trying to upload for you all to see, so keep checking back!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
