What a busy, creative and fun week we have had in Y3! The Christmas countdown is officially on… with the return of the mischievous elves!!

This week, Y3 have designed and created their very own Christmas cushions using the cross stich and applique style! Both classes were outstanding! We are so pleased, proud, delighted, amazed by the quality of work the children produced! It was really nice to see the children helping each other out. Teamwork certainly does make the dream work in Y3! Please take a look at the photos of our D.T. week! P.S… top secret, the children will be wrapping up their cushions to take home as a gift over the Christmas break!

In maths, we have continued our dividing by 3, 4 and 8 and revisiting division being the inverse of multiplication. Although the children are familiar with the concept of division the added complication of a new set of times tables has thrown a spanner into the works. As we have previously mentioned, please utilise the times table song links in the home learning section as this will really assist your child in securing a new set of skills. Maths homework this week is based on multiplication and division fact families. Y3 have practised these a lot this week, we hope this homework will further strengthen their understanding.

In English, we have moved onto our new fiction text, Skara Brae. This book relates to our previous English unit, Stone Age Boy. At the start of this week, Y3 independently wrote up their ‘big write’ for their own Stone Age Boy story. Once again, we were delighted by the quality of writing! The children included a number of grammar elements that we have been working on including: noun phrases, alliteration, onomatopoeia, simile and prepositions!

Y3 are really enjoying our games lessons, Tag Rugby! It has been delightful watching the children engage in competitive games whilst having fun!

Wishing you a wonderful and restful weekend!

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
