Year 3 blog 14.07.2023

Date: 14th Jul 2023 @ 5:45pm

Our final blog of the year has arrived very swiftly, it seems like just five minutes ago we were welcoming the children into their new classes!

We have been so proud of all of the children this week for their great attitudes to learning, team work and kind, caring natures.  They supported one other throughout a rather soggy sports day and were joyous in congratulating each other for their efforts - they were all superstars!

The children have worked hard on learning to tell the time in maths and it's been great to see so many of them wearing watches.  This is such an important life skill and it's essential that the children keep practising until it becomes second nature.  Why not ask them what time it is at different points in the day, challenging them to be correct to the minute?  We found that they were all able to tell us when it was lunch time!

In geography the children worked together to create 3D maps, demonstrating their knowledge of topography and using standard symbols to denote key features.  They've been fascinated with our topic this term and have contributed many of their personal experiences when we have discussed our own county, human and physical features of our local environment and changing land use in London.  It's fascinating to listen to them build on each other's knowledge during class discussions, each bringing their own unique viewpoints.

In English we have explored the classic poem The Spider and the Fly: the children immediately recognised the cautionary moral to the tale and were keen to tell the fly why she shouldn't listen to the wily spider!

We look forward to the exciting Year 6 Show on Monday morning and to the Year 6 Leavers' service in church on Tuesday, but will be sad to say goodbye to the children when we finish at 1:45 on Tuesday.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone,

The Year 3 team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
