Year 3 Blog - 16.12.22

16.12.22

What a week! We’re not sure that it is possible to cram any more into a single week. The festivities have just kept on rolling from Monday to Friday; Christmas plays, Christmas Dinner, Christmas takeover day, Christmas party… dark room anyone? All joking aside the children have enjoyed an almighty final full week to our first term in Year Three.

We even managed to squeeze in a visit from Mr Smart. (Jacob in 3IR’s dad) He took us on a whistle stop tour through the wonderful world of copper, tin, bronze and iron. The children were fascinated to see the metals within the rocks and amused at how easy it is to bend a length of tin. There were plenty of superman/woman impressions as the metal was passed around.

All children in school have now completed their festive sewing project. We really have been amazed with their perseverance and “Never give up!” attitude. Hopefully they will be bringing home a decoration to treasure for many years to come.

Talking about never giving up, we spent some time this week discussing the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. We introduced this by showing the children the CBeebies bedtime story read by Rob Burrow.  He talks about how his world has been turned upside down, just like Tilda, the little girl in the story. Tilda Tries Again by Tom Percival follows the story of a young girl who one day finds her world turned upside-down and has to find a new way to solve her problems. The children were fascinated by the technology Rob was able to use to allow him to read. "Reading and literacy are so important. It doesn't matter what your disability is, reading is accessible to everyone. Anyone can enjoy reading and develop a love of books and bedtime stories, just like me and my family." We were so proud when the children naturally opened up a discussion about how everyone is special and unique and that they didn’t see his disability just a difference.

3 more days to go! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Have a great weekend and stay safe everyone.

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
