It’s been another exciting week in Year 3, especially with Red Nose Day today.  We’re huge fans of comedy so to be able to support charities whilst having fun has made for a great day.

We’re delighted to welcome a new member of the Year 3 team: Miss McGuigan joins the teaching team for her student placement.  She has enjoyed meeting the children and is looking forward to our DT project next week.

In English lessons we’ve continued our focus on Ted Hughes’ The Iron Man and have created some fabulous stories based on our own characters.  Imaginations have run rampant and we’ve had all sorts of creatures from the Lion Shark Octopus to the Unicorn Devil, all ready to take over the Earth and do battle with the Iron Man. The children have worked really hard to incorporate adverbial starters and adjectives to make their writing interesting and exciting.  Well done everyone!

In RE we discussed this big question: ‘At Easter, is the Cross a symbol of Sorrow or Joy?’  We were really impressed with the way the children expressed their ideas, exploring how emotional responses change during the sequence of events, from the joyous welcome Jesus received as he rode into Jerusalem to the sorrow felt by his friends and family as he died.  The children were emotionally literate in their discussions and enjoyed adding to our class floor books.

We were inspired by traditional Indian music as we composed pieces on the xylophones – lots of enthusiasm and some ringing ears by the end of the lesson!

We’ve moved on to fractions in maths so please continue to encourage your children to explore fractions of quantities – we’re sure you’ll be impressed by what they already know.

As ever, please encourage your child to access the TT Rockstars programme daily at home; it only needs to be for 10 minutes but it makes such an enormous difference.  Choose the Jamming mode and select the times tables that your child is comfortable with to begin with then add in the 3, 4, 8 x tables.  These catchy songs will also help embed learning:

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
