Year 3 Blog 23.02.24

Date: 23rd Feb 2024 @ 3:16pm

What a fabulous start to the second half of the Spring Term we’ve had, with the children bringing their kindness, wonderful personalities and fabulous attitudes to learning back to the classroom!

In English, we have started learning about our new non-fiction book, ‘Earthshattering Events’ by Robin Jacobs. The children will be building up to create a non-chronological report on a chosen natural disaster. This week, we have been focusing on earthquakes and volcanoes.

In Maths this week, Y3 have been working hard on Fractions! Whilst this is not always an easy area, the children have really impressed with their understanding and prior knowledge of fractions. The children are familiar with the term’s ‘numerator’ and ‘denominator.’ We have been learning about halves, thirds and quarters.

Our new RE unit is about celebrations so we’ve talked a lot about the road to Easter, thinking about the key events that lead to this special time of year.  We’ll spend time next week mapping out what a special celebration would look like if each of us had the chance to plan one, so please take a moment to reflect on this with your child. What would they celebrate?  Who would be the person at the centre of the celebration be?  How would they celebrate? We will also be looking at the events of Palm Sunday. The children will complete their own Palm Sunday poem.

There’s a new homework grid available this week with lots of lovely activities to share.  As ever, please encourage your child to access Doodle and TTRS programmes daily at home; it only needs to be for 10 minutes but it makes such an enormous difference. Maths homework this week has been set on Doodle. The children have 2 assignment to complete on fractions.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
