What a scorcher this week has been!

Sports Day is only next week; Wednesday 29th June, 9.30am at Range High School. Everyone is welcome to join us for a festival of teamwork, personal record breaking and probably some very sweaty heads. Junior Sports Day runs a little differently to Infant Sports Day. The children get to choose from a variety of races. The sack race and the always popular sprint led the way with the children’s votes. We even have a number of heats to determine an overall year group winner.  We will be walking down to Range shortly after registration on Wednesday morning. Please can you ensure that the children come to school in their PE kits, with a full bottle of water and suntan cream applied.

This week we have been focussing on the Roman Army and the sometimes-hard life of a soldier. You had to be male, tall, fit and incredibly strong to join. This led to many discussions about how fair life was back then. The girls were horrified to learn that unless you were extremely well off a young female would be unlikely to receive any education at all. The Roman legacy can still be seen today but thankfully not in their attitudes to women.

The children have continued to explore how an axel works as they plan and design a chassis to form the base of a Roman chariot fit for an emperor. Watch this space for a wooden masterpiece rolling its way towards you soon.

The children will be visiting their new classroom and teacher on Thursday morning. This is always and exciting and sometimes anxious moment for everyone. The children will also have the huge privilege of writing a letter, welcoming the new Reception children to St Luke’s. In September they will be introduced to a new friend that they will help to guide and support through their transition from Pre-School to Big School. What an honour!

Have a great weekend and here’s to a ‘Roaring Roman’ final 3 weeks in Year Three.

The Year Three Team x

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
