We’re back!

Well, what on earth was that half term weather about? We hope that everyone managed some time to relax despite the seemingly endless downpours. Thank you to the children who have already brought some interesting natural objects into school to add to our sketch book inspiration toolkit. There is still plenty of time to contribute. There seems to be lots of razor shells and even lumps of coal on the beach at the moment. I wonder what treasures your child can unearth?

The children are raring to go and have thoroughly enjoyed our healthy sandwich focus this week. They have thought carefully about squeezing as many of the food groups into their bread enclosed delight. Who knew apple or grapes went well with bacon?  Or that mayonnaise could be substituted for natural yoghurt. A number of the children have even commented that they are going to use the NHS Food Scanner app to find healthy alternatives for cupboard staples. The children have taken full ownership of their sandwich design and delighted in our bread tasting lesson on Tuesday. They had to evaluate and rate each type of bread based on the appearance, small, texture and finally taste.  Warm pitta bread and a good old bagel proved to be the most popular choice.

They then went on to create an ‘exploded’ diagram of the exact layers of ingredients that they would like in their sandwich, writing an accompanying shopping list that went home on Tuesday. Thank you for your support in helping the children to source their chosen ingredients.

Wednesday, we focussed on our knife and sharp utensils skills. Ask your child about the different slicing techniques.

Thursday was the BIG ONE! All those ideas and precise design elements rolled into a flurry of bread crumbs, wonky cucumber slices and squeals of delight. Take a look at some of the photographs of our culinary masterpieces.

We’re not really sure how we can top this week… Oh yes molten rock, obsidian and ‘Stone Age Boy’

See you all bright and early on Monday to begin our adventure to the centre of the Earth.

The Year Three Team x

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
