Year 3 blog 26.05.2023

Date: 26th May 2023 @ 10:50pm

26.05.2023

The first half-term has seemed to fly by and this week has been no exception!  We’ve made the most of the good weather by getting outside to do some orienteering tasks, reading maps and solving clues to show our learning about Roman Britain.

In English we have worked hard to create fantastic information posters about the Roman legacy.  We became teachers to the teachers, researching and sharing facts, creating learning walls and using each other’s knowledge and understanding to create some great work.  We’ve really gained confidence in working as a team, both in the classroom and beyond.

We’ve enjoyed taking part in a range of athletics activities, running, throwing javelins, navigating hurdles and finding our way through and around obstacles.  We’ve worked hard to beat our own personal bests and are looking forward to showcasing our skills on Sports Day.

In maths we’ve completed our unit on lines and shapes and have had fun using our bodies to show parallel, perpendicular, diagonal, horizontal and vertical lines.  It’s tricky to remember which is which but knowing train tracks are parallel is a great start.

Next half term we will learn about time.  This can be quite a challenge and it’s always useful to have a head start by looking at watches and clocks at home and knowing that analogue clocks count time in 5-minute increments.  We’re allowed to wear watches in school to help us practise telling the time across the day, reinforcing our learning.  It’s incredible how quickly we learn what 12:20 looks like on the clock – lunch time!

Here’s a fun game that will require all of the skills we’ve learned so far this year: you can go at your own pace and choose your own topics – why not choose an avatar and see what rewards you can win?  The link is also posted on the Google classrooms: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zd2f7nb/articles/zn2y7nb

Have a lovely half-term break everyone, and stay safe in the sun.

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
