Year 3 Blog - 27.5.22

27.05.22

We’ve made it! Another half term crossed off the calendar as we rapidly approach the final few weeks in Year Three.

This week it’s all been about clay, mosaics, Scientific thinking and V.I.P’s (Visual, Informational Plans.) Firstly, the children adored both the sensory and sculptural elements of experimenting with clay and slip. Our windowsills are currently adorned with the most wonderfully creative clay tiles. Each and every one tells a different story of a creative journey. We have learnt new skills and used a variety of pottery tools to both carve away parts of our designs and build out our 3D images. Although, unfortunately we are unable to fire them in a kiln we are hoping to glaze the finished pieces when we return from the half term holiday. Take a look at our fabulous photos.

To finish off our Enchanted Tree focus the children have created a 3-part VIP (Visual Instructional Plan – story board, think IKEA instructions) to help them to retell the end of the story. We acted it out in groups, illustrated the key points and highlighted the key words before putting pen to paper. We have been working on using inverted commas to demarcate direct speech and organising our thoughts into paragraphs alongside our daily bread and butter of applying capital letters, full stops and other appropriate punctuation to our written work.

Our sunflowers have now either bloomed or unfortunately, busted. Either way they are coming home today for the children to care for. Can they continue a sunflower diary to track their seedlings progress? We would love you to email in photographs of your sunflower's progress.

Today we have spent some time learning about seed dispersal and then we set about invstigating various ways of dispersing our own 'bead seed'. The children were extremely creative with their thinking and realised that a little bit of wind can help a seed travel a very long way! Take a look at the photos of our creative thinking.

A big thank you to everyone who bought a tomato, pepper or spider plant after school today. This activity was the culmination of a half term spent learning all about growing (Science), how to manage money (PHSE) and adding, suntracting and solving money problems (Maths). The money goes a long way in helping us buy vital resources for our classes!

Wishing you all a wonderful Jubilee Bank Holiday and a healthy half term.

Take care and see you bright and early on Wednesday 8th June for our final topic in Year Three, the ever popular - “The Romans are Coming!”

The Year Three Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
