Year 3 blog 30.06.2023

Date: 30th Jun 2023 @ 6:34pm

It's been a busy week for Year 3; we've continued with our science focus on light by exploring how shadows change depending on the proximity and direction of the light source.  When investigating shadows outdoors we reminded ourselves that our eyes can be damaged by too much light so it's especially important that we don't look at the sun, even when we wear sunglasses.

When we read the classic poem 'My shadow' by Robert Louis Stevenson in English we realised just how many of his other works we were familiar with: this prompted a long discussion about stories that have been loved by many generations.  We watched a short clip about shadows from 'Peter Pan' which fuelled the conversation further - it's clear that the children have enjoyed making precious family memories without realising just how old the stories actually are.  Please don't be surprised if you are quizzed about the age of your family favourites - perhaps this can be an opportunity to revisit them or discover some new ones!

We've practised ready for Sports Day on Monday, when we'll need to be in our PE kits with a full waterbottle.  Any caps that have sneaked home will need to be sent back in on Monday, please.

It's with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Miss McGuigan today.  Miss McGuigan has completed her teaching practise with us and whilst we wish her luck and happiness we will miss her smiling face and kindness.  It was extra-special for 3R to have their final Year 3 Golden Ticket Celebration with her - just look at the photo below!

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

The Year 3 team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
