It’s been another incredibly exciting week in school, with a visit to our Reception friends on Monday so we could share our toys and teach them about pneumatics – and of course time to play with them in the ROLA!

Tuesday brought the Year 5 show, when we all enjoyed an amazing production of ‘Star Warts’.  With dancing, singing and some fabulous acting the time flew, and we couldn’t get the songs out of our heads all day.

We continued with our Indian music theme and have learned and performed a song this week.  We have some very gifted performers amongst us, and each class sounded beautiful as they joined in with the melodies.

Our reflections on whether the Easter cross is a symbol of joy or sorrow have continued throughout the week; we designed our own crosses, decorating them to reflect our ideas, then used the theme to create Easter cards to take home.

As their Year 4 buddies went ahead to set up for their assembly on Wednesday morning, we took responsibility for our Reception friends and walked them safely to church.  It was lovely to see the children making new friends, talking and laughing all the way, and to see the care Year 3 took to make sure their friends were able to organise themselves in church then fasten their coats afterwards. They were all careful to swap hands as we crossed the road so the younger child was away from the curb.  We were very proud of the way the Year 3 children behaved so of course they were treated to another play in the ROLA!

The children have created some fantastic Forces posters, using their research and note-taking skills learned last week.  Their creativity was once again at the fore with eye-catching graphics and detailed diagrams used to enhance their writing.  A great way to wrap up our topic, and the perfect showcase for a whole range of new skills.

We always love to share our home learning so it was a treat to see the colourful and imaginative Easter eggs arriving over the course of the week.  We also had a fascinating performance from one of our Year 3 superstars who showed us how to communicate with Makaton sign language: she 'sang' the whole of 'Fight Song' while the children watched, amazed at her fluency and skill.

Our next topic will focus on the Roman invasions and Roman life in Britain.  There’s no homework set for the Easter break but if you get a chance to head for Chester you can walk through history on the Roman walls there!

Happy Easter everyone!

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
