Year 3 Blog - 4.11.22
Date: 4th Nov 2022 @ 5:03pm
Welcome back everyone! We are looking forward to a rather hectic but fabulous new half term. Our topic ‘Rock and Roll’ has already proven a big hit with the children. Who doesn’t love learning about how people used to live in caves, how an underwater volcano shapes the ocean floor or how the Earth was once made up of one huge supercontinent – Pangaea.
This week we have started, quite literally with a bang as we have begun to explore the role of tectonic plates in our ever-changing world. The children have been fascinated as we have delved into the wonderful world of volcanoes, earthquakes, fault lines and the many layers of the earth. Science, geography and history all rolled into one. Next week we will be following developments at the COP27 conference, turning our attention to the global responsibility of slowing climate change. The children will be writing a pledge detailing their idea of how they are personally going to try and reduce their environmental footprint.
We think everyone’s favourite part of the week may have been our ‘chocolate rocks’ lesson; science has never been so tasty. The children were asked to sort, classify, name and match a number of chocolate bars to their igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic counterparts. Ask your child which group of rocks a Crunchie bar, Mars bar or Aero belongs to. Can they come up with any other examples?
In PE we have begun our ‘Dance around the World’ focus and in outdoor games the sun shone for our first hockey session.
Many thanks to everyone who joined us virtually for Parents Evening on Thursday. We hope to catch everyone else on Wednesday 9th November.
Now where did we put those left over chocolate bars…
Have a great weekend and stay safe if you are planning on enjoying the fireworks.
