Year 3 Blog - 5.11.21

Date: 5th Nov 2021 @ 11:18am

Welcome back everyone!

Well this week has absolutely flown by. The children are loving our new topic “Around the World in 38 Days” exploring the 7 continents through Phileas Fogg’s eyes. Ask your children to sing you the 7 continents song. It’s a catchy one! As the week progressed the children became fascinated with Paris and in particular the Eiffel Tower. The children have created a Paris fact file using a picture atlas, encyclopaedia, non-fiction texts and online resources. Take a look at the photos below.

In maths some of the children have moved on to subtraction with renaming. This has thrown up a few tricky areas. If you have a chance to practise alongside your child we would be very grateful. The main area that is causing confusion is that some children automatically see 0 – 6 and flip it around and answer 6 – 0. We continually reinforce with the children that you cannot alter the order of operations when looking at a subtraction calculation whereas you can when using addition.

It was lovely to speak to lots of you last night during our Parent / Teacher meetings and we are looking forward to seeing everyone else next Tuesday. Thank you for everything you are doing at home to support your children.

Have a great weekend and stay safe.

The Year Three team x

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
