Year 3 Blog - 9.12.22

Date: 9th Dec 2022 @ 2:22pm

09.12.22

Our fingers have been so hot this week as we have powered through 60 DT projects. We can’t reveal too much but please take a look at our marvellous sewing skills so far. We have been so impressed with the children’s perseverance. Sewing is a skill that doesn’t come naturally to everyone but my goodness we have given it our all. A special mention also must go to our confident sewers, as they have quite literally rolled up their sleeves and helped their classmates through multiple mishaps. Teamwork certainly does make the dream work in Year Three.

In maths, we have moved onto dividing by 3, 4 and 8 and revisiting division being the inverse of multiplication. Although the children are familiar with the concept of division the added complication of a new set of times tables has thrown a spanner into the works. As we have previously mentioned, please utilise the times table song links in the home learning section as this will really assist your child in securing a new set of skills.

In English, we have been honing our letter writing skills. Following on from our beautiful letters to our now Year 7 buddies, we have written to good old Santa Claus. Our primary focus has been on the appropriate use of paragraphs – following the rule of the 3 T’s; a change in timetopic or the person talking.  Once again this can be a difficult concept to master so please take any opportunity to highlight the use of paragraphs in your child’s reading books, a newspaper, internet search, football programme etc…

The Year 2 Nativity was fabulous! All of the children sat mesmerised as their younger friends put on an almighty show. It really is the greatest story ever told. This leads nicely into our next focus in RE – advent.

Next week is a busy one. We have a Christmas play on Monday, Christmas dinner on Wednesday and the Christmas Takeover Day (including Breakfast with Santa) on Thursday. Please arrive at school by 8.15am if your child would like to attend Breakfast with Santa. The hall doors will be open as the playground will remain locked until 8.35am. If you cannot make it to school that early please don’t worry as everyone will still receive a gift. On Thursday the children can come to school in their ‘party clothes’, footie kits or any mufti of their choice. It will certainly be a day to remember.

Happy weekend one and all!

The Year Three Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
