Year 3 Weekly Blog 11.10.24

Another busy week and an exciting Autumn adventure ahead!
Year 3 were absolute superstars as they led their very first church service on Monday! Every single child played an important role — whether it was reading, singing, or helping each other to remember their parts — and we couldn't be more proud. Because of their hard work, teamwork, and fantastic speaking skills, all of Year 3 received this week’s Superstar Award! 🏆
This week in English, we’ve been busy becoming letter writers! We planned and wrote letters to our buddies, who are now off on their exciting new adventure at high school. It’s been a great way to practise our writing skills while updating them on everything we’ve been up to in Year 3! We’re so excited and really hope they write back soon!
In our outdoor games sessions, we’ve been focusing on improving our passing skills in basketball. We’ve learned how to do two types of passes: the shoulder pass and the chest pass. Practising these techniques has really helped us work as a team, and we’re getting much better at aiming and catching!
During gymnastics, we’ve been perfecting our balancing and mirroring with a partner. We worked together to copy each other’s movements, hold tricky poses, and balance carefully—making sure we stayed strong and steady!
Looking ahead to next week...
Next week is going to be an exciting one for Year 3, as we have not one but two trips to Church planned!
On Wednesday, 16th October, we will be walking to Church for a special experience day to help us prepare for our upcoming poetry writing unit. The theme of the unit will be based on the sensory experiences of Autumn, and what better way to get inspired than by spending time outdoors!
We’ll be fully immersing ourselves in the beautiful autumn landscape around the church grounds, exploring nature, and even toasting marshmallows on an open fire! 🔥 It's going to be a morning full of fun activities! We will return to school in time for lunch.
Please make sure your child comes to school on Wednesday dressed for the weather and the outdoors. They will need:
- Long sleeves and legs covered to stay warm and protected.
- Walking boots or trainers that can get muddy.
- A waterproof coat in case of rain.
On Thursday, we’ll be walking back to the church for our St Luke’s Day Service with the whole school. This time, Year 3 won’t be leading the service, so instead of wearing school uniform, children should come in their PE kits as normal.
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year 3 Team
