Year 3 Weekly Blog 14.2.25

Date: 14th Feb 2025 @ 4:43pm

What a brilliant and busy half term we have had in Year Three! From celebrating our amazing Golden Ticket achievement to enjoying a fantastic school trip to Eureka! Science Museum, there has been so much to celebrate and enjoy. We also completed our brilliant moving puppets in Art, and wrote some fantastic comedy stories—everyone has worked so hard!

To wrap up another fantastic half term of maths, we spent this week consolidating everything we have learned so far. We revisited simple addition and subtraction, then both with renaming. We also practiced multiplying by 3, 4, and 8, using bar models, and solving complex word problems. Additionally, we are now becoming well-versed in reading weighing scales with different values for each marking—such a great skill to master! Next term we will explore volume and capacity, before moving on to money!

In Science, we concluded our Animals are Humans Too topic by exploring what humans need to maintain a healthy body and mind. We compared our own diets to those of herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, even considering how different kinds of teeth help both us and animals to survive. Speaking of teeth, in PSHE we discussed dental health, learning why it’s important to eat a balanced diet, brush twice a day, and visit the dentist regularly to keep our teeth strong and healthy.

We also celebrated Safer Internet Day this week, reinforcing the importance of staying safe online. We discussed important rules such as keeping personal information private, understanding not to talk to strangers, knowing when to report any concerns to a trusted adult and recognising that people sometimes behave differently online, including pretending to be someone they are not.

To finish off our half term of indoor PE, we enjoyed an exhilarating game of dodgeball on Thursday! We played a slightly enhanced version of the game, where four teams competed at once, battling to eliminate an entire team and conquer their space on the court—it was so much fun!

The children have all worked incredibly hard this term and truly deserve a big rest.

Have a lovely half-term break, everyone! We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday, 24th February.

The Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
