Year 3 Weekly Blog 14.3.25

Date: 14th Mar 2025 @ 5:34pm

This week in English, Year 3 have been busy planning a step-by-step guide on how to live a healthy life! We have worked hard to include brilliant punctuation, brackets, bullet points, and lots of imperative (bossy) verbs to make our instructions clear and engaging. Next week, we’re looking forward to bringing our work to life by adding drawings and images as we transfer our plans onto real posters!

We are continuing to love our whole class novels, with every child following along in their own copy as the story is read aloud. 3R are deeply immersed in The Day I Fell Into a Fairytale by Ben Miller - this magical tale has us on the edge of our seats! Meanwhile, 3GP have just finished Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine and have now started The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. We can’t wait to see where this adventure takes us! Each class will swap books at the start of the Summer term.

We feel so lucky to share these stories together — it really is one of the best parts of our day in Year 3!

In Maths, we are deepening our understanding of fractions, focusing on the terms numerator and denominator. We have learnt that:

  • The numerator is the top number — it tells us how many parts we have.
  • The denominator is the bottom number — it shows us how many equal parts the whole is divided into.

Watch this video with your child to refresh your understanding of fractions: How to write fractions - BBC Bitesize

In RE, we are continuing to learn about the Easter story, this week exploring what happened during The Last Supper. We imagined ourselves as one of Jesus’ disciples and wrote a diary entry describing how we felt when Jesus revealed that one of us would betray him!

In Computing, we have been inventing short stories to turn into our very own animations! The children have been using their creativity to plan exciting ideas, ready to bring them to life on screen next week.

This week's maths homework is now available under the Home Learning Tab on the Year 3 main class page and two assignments have been set on Doodle Maths, to be completed by next Thursday.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support!

The Year 3 Team 😊

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
