Year 3 Weekly Blog 15.11.24

Date: 15th Nov 2024 @ 5:44pm

What an incredible week we’ve had!

On Monday, we joined the whole school for a moving and educational Remembrance Day service, led beautifully by our talented Year 6s. The children listened attentively and reflected thoughtfully during this special moment of remembrance.

Our exploration of the Stone Age is in full swing, and this week we delved deeper into the fascinating eras of the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic. We’ve been learning about the differences in food, housing, and tools across these periods, sparking some fantastic discussions in class.

A highlight of the week was Wednesday, when our classrooms underwent an exciting transformation into a dark, gloomy cave, complete with a realistic fire to set the scene. We explored Stone Age materials, touching fur and leather from Stone Age dress and the slate stones used for tool carving. We even applied our knowledge of rock types from last week, recognising that slate is a metamorphic rock. Its smooth surface gave us a clue — it was formed by being squashed and heated deep beneath the Earth!

On Thursday, we had an exciting cinema trip to watch Butterfly Tale. The children were captivated by its heartwarming themes of friendship, bravery, and diversity. They were so well-behaved and represented our school beautifully, making us all very proud.

To end a fantastic week, we celebrated Children in Need with a fun day of wearing spotty or yellow mufti to support this great cause. It was a wonderful way to end the week, knowing we were making a difference for those in need.

Looking to next week - we are so excited to welcome special visitors from The Wildlife Trust at Lunt Meadows on Monday. The team will be spending a full day with the children, teaching all about life in the Mesolithic Stone Age. The day will be spent handling real artefacts, trying our hand at soap knapping (a safe and fun way to learn how Stone Age people made tools by shaping soap instead of stone), and creating our own unique artwork, along with so much more.

As we’ll be spending a full day with the team from Lunt Meadows on Monday, we won’t be doing PE. However, please still send your child in PE kit so they can be as comfortable as possible for this hands-on, practical learning day.

We can’t wait to see the children dive into this incredible part of history!

Have a wonderful weekend, everybody.

The Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
