Year 3 Weekly Blog (18. 6. 21)
Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 10:01am
We have lived and breathed our new topic this week and the children are loving it!
Within English we have written amazing acrostic poems based on Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni. The children thought she was brave to stand up for what she believed and to try and protect the land on which she lived. They were quite horrified to learn about the Roman invasion of Britain, which also brought up lots of discussion about whether it is right to take away someone elses land just because you want it!
Within DT we have begun to look at vehicles and the key elements we will need to include when making our own chariots, these being the wheels, chassis, axle and cab. We continued to add to our Roman dance this week, marching in unison in line formations and finding ways to create the 'testudo'. Ask your child about it. History saw us creating a Roman timeline. The children couldn't believe that the building of Rome began back in 700BC and the collapse of Rome didn't take place until 455AD. Such a massive reign that left a lasting legacy, one that we will be learning about over the coming weeks.
The children have been asking us abut our annual Roman Day and we can finally confirm we have a date!!! It will take place on Friday 9th July. Usually the Roman soldiers from Chester would come into school on this day and deliver the entire day for us. However, due to current restrictions, our Roman soldiers have to stay in Chester. However, we have arranged for them to teach the children virtually over the course of this morning. They will be teaching the children all about Roman sanition and Gladiators and the Games. The children will be in school in full costume and have lots of opportunities to ask questions during the live session. There will be a small cost for this and we will have more information in the next week.
*ADVANCE NOTICE - ROMAN DAY FRIDAY 9TH JULY. YOUR CHILD CAN DRESS UP ON THIS DAY*
A big well done to this week's Superstars - Jacob, Georgia and Tom!!!
Wishing you all a great weekend,
