Another brilliant week in Year 3
This week in English, we’ve been focusing on using determiners correctly. We thought carefully about whether the next word begins with a consonant or a vowel, for example, a rock or an open box. We also started transferring our instructional writing on How to Live a Healthy Lifestyle onto A3 posters. We’ve been working hard on our handwriting, making sure we follow the correct letter formation rules we first learned in Reception. Now that we have so many wonderful ideas to write about, we’re reminding ourselves not to rush and to check for mistakes!
In Maths, we’ve moved on from naming fractions to adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator. We learned that when the denominator stays the same, all we need to do is add or subtract the numerators.
A highlight of our week was sharing our pneumatic toys with Reception. We loved explaining how we built them and how the air we blow through a straw expands the balloon - pushing the burger box open, making the toy move!
In PE, we enjoyed outdoor circuit activities, including speed bounce, skipping, and throwing and catching. Our partners used stopwatches to time us for one minute to see how many repetitions we could complete — and then we challenged ourselves to beat our personal bests!
Red Nose Day was a huge success! The children had a fantastic time wearing their own clothes, and we raised lots of money for an important cause. As part of the celebrations, we introduced the Comic Relief x LEGO competition, where our school has the chance to win one of 40 LEGO kits worth £2,000! The children were asked to design the school of the future, thinking about big ideas like - will we teleport to class? Will robot chefs cook our lunches? Children started sketching their ideas, adding color and labels if they wanted to, before handing them to their teacher. If your child is finishing their design at home, please ensure it is returned by next Friday. More details about the LEGO competition can be found here.
Next week, we can't wait to showcase what we've learned in our singing sessions with Mr. Gordon as we perform for the whole school on Tuesday.
Important for 3R: On Tuesday 25th March, please wear full school uniform instead of PE kit. We are performing in the afternoon during our usual PE slot, but we will make sure the children have an alternative physical activity in class or outside.
Homework
This week’s homework is now live under the homework tab on our class home page, along with two set assignments on Doodle Maths.
We’ve noticed that some homework books haven’t been returned since they were given out. Please encourage your child to complete their weekly tasks and return their book by Thursday each week. A big thank you to those who have been doing this regularly! If you’re having any trouble accessing the homework, please let your class teacher know - we would be happy to help!
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
