Year 3 Weekly Blog 24.1.25

What a Wonderful, Windy Week!

What a fantastic week it’s been in Year 3! The blustery weather didn’t slow us down. This week we’ve been busy learning how to use inverted commas to punctuate direct speech. Now that we have finished reading our focus text, The Incredible Book Eating Boy, the children are beginning to plan their own stories inspired by the book. Each child has come up with their own imaginative titles and designed characters with rather intriguing eating habits!

In Maths, we’ve been consolidating our skills in multiplication. This week, we moved on to dividing two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers. The children have been using partition and column division to master this skill. While it’s a tricky concept, the children have been showing great perseverance, and we’re already seeing brilliant progress!

This week’s guided reading and science lessons focused on skeletons! We explored a fact file about human bones, learning about joints and ligaments. In science, we compared animals with exoskeletons to vertebrates.

Dodgeball took centre stage in PE this week. The children practised their overarm throws, while also revisiting the rules of the game. Their enthusiasm and energy was wonderful to see!

And finally, in PSHE, we discussed what makes each of us special. The children shared their unique strengths and talents, discovering that kindness, creativity, determination, and bravery make us all superheroes in our own way.

Let’s see what next week brings!

The Year 3 Team 😊

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
