Year 3 Weekly Blog 27.9.24

Date: 27th Sep 2024 @ 12:50pm

Another Busy and Brilliant Week!

What an exciting week we’ve had in Year 3, From basketball to Scat singing, we’ve been busy learning new skills and getting ready for a very important event!

In PE, we are continuing to develop our basketball skills, this week, practicing chest and bounce passes. Everyone worked really hard on their aim and teamwork! We also had lots of fun in gymnastics, where we perfected our forward rolls – adding a touch of Olympic flair as we finished!

In music, we explored something new: scat singing!  It was so much fun to take inspiration from jazz singer - Ella Fitzgerald, to make up our own sounds and rhythms. We also enjoyed our singing session with Finlay Gordon from the Liverpool Cathedral Choir. Finlay is teaching us some fantastic vocal techniques and helping us to work on our pitch and tone. Everyone sang their hearts out! We can’t wait to put our new skills into practice during our Harvest Church Service.

During class worship, we had an important discussion about resilience – what it means to keep going, even when things are tricky. Everyone shared fantastic ideas about how we can stay positive and always bounce back from challenges.

In English, we’ve been learning all about commas – where to put them and how they help our writing make more sense. We’ve had fun spotting them in our reading books and using them in our own writing too!

This week was extra special for Year 3 because we held our School Council Election Day on Friday. The children were so considerate as they listened carefully to each candidate’s speech, casting their votes and learning about the importance of having a voice in our school. We are so proud of all the candidates for their courage. Even if they weren’t elected as a representative this time, the children all know that each and every one of them plays an important role in raising matters and making their voices heard! We have some fantastic future leaders on our hands.

Important

1. Year 3 outdoor games sessions will no longer be on Tuesdays as of next week. Our new outdoor games sessions are now every Monday, beginning Monday 30th September. Please ensure your child comes into school on Mondays in their outdoor games kits, and a waterproof coat.

2. We are so excited to lead our Harvest Church Service on Monday 7th October - on this day, children are to come into school in their full school uniform, with PE kit and trainers in a bag to change into after lunchtime. Thank you for your support.

Home Learning

Church Service – This week, your child has brought home a slip of paper with their lines on. Please can you ensure the slip is kept somewhere visible for your child to practice each day – a bathroom mirror is great! They will have a copy of their lines to hold in Church, so memorising the words isn’t too important, but - being confident in their pronunciation will really help them on the day! We have a full rehearsal at Church on Friday, and the children are so excited to share their service with you.

Doodle Learning – This week’s assignment has been set on Doodle Maths: “Add 3-digit numbers using column addition”. If you are having any trouble at all accessing Doodle Maths, please let your child’s class teacher know.

Reading – Each child chose a “blue” stickered borrow book from our school library on Wednesday and carefully wrote the title in their reading diaries. The “blue” book is to be enjoyed at home together. Your child may not be familiar with some words in the story, so please give lots of praise when they try. Re-read the sentence your child has attempted, to keep the plot of the story going. Once they have finished the book, they can return and swap it for a new one when they’re ready. If your child is finding reading a little challenging, they have also brought home a Read, Write, Inc story book. The children are exited to keep track of the books they’ve read. Remember – ‘little and often’ (15 mins a day) is the best approach to build happy, confident readers!

Have a wonderful weekend, everybody.

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
