Year 3 Weekly Blog (28.3.25)

Date: 28th Mar 2025 @ 6:46pm

What an exciting and action-packed week we have had in Year 3! Our young scientists have been busy delving into their learning about Fantastic Forces as part of our science topic this term. We have explored different types of forces, including gravity, magnetism, contact and non-contact forces.

To deepen our understanding of forces, we completed a circuit of activities, each designed to explore a different force in action - We ran with parachutes, discovering how air resistance slows objects down. We tested how objects move on different surfaces and discussed which materials increase or reduce friction. We investigated magnetism by experimenting with magnets to discover how forces can act at a distance and dropped different objects from various heights to observe how gravity pulls objects towards the Earth.

On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of watching the Year 5 performance, which was full of suspense, humour, and fantastic acting. The whole school was captivated by their brilliant storytelling!

We are also so proud of our Year 3 children for their wonderful singing concert on Tuesday. Their confidence and enthusiasm shone through, and they were awarded lots of golden tickets from other year groups for their fantastic performance! We will be celebrating our golden ticket achievements very soon - more details to follow.

In computing, the children have been creating animations using iMotion software. Using a new technique called onion skinning, the results have been truly impressive!

Homework

This week's homework is now available under the Home Learning tab at the top of the Year 3 Class Home Page. The focus is on volume! We've provided three differentiated sheets - there’s no need to complete them all. Simply choose the one that best suits your child.

Additionally, there are two fraction-based math assignments to complete on Doodle Maths. Please support your child in ensuring all homework is completed by next Thursday. Thank you!

Next week, we will continue our scientific exploration by looking at magnetism and friction in more detail. We are also looking forward to attending Church on Thursday to watch our talented Year 4 friends perform their Easter Service.

Important Please note that school will finish early at 2pm on Friday 4th April due to the end of the Spring Term.

Have a wonderful weekend, everybody!

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
