Year 3 Weekly Blog 31.1.25

Date: 31st Jan 2025 @ 5:17pm

What a fantastic week of learning we've had in Year 3!

We kicked off the week by recapping the present perfect tense, spotting examples in sentences and reminding ourselves how it differs from the simple past. In Maths, we focused on division, tackling two-digit numbers divided by one-digit numbers using both long division and the short division (or ‘bus stop’) method. Many children preferred the bus stop method but agreed that mastering long division will be useful as they move up the school!

In English, we are fully immersed in our class novels—3R is reading The Day I Fell Into a Fairytale by Ben Miller, while 3GP is enjoying George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. We’ve had fantastic discussions about each character’s feelings and even created our own hashtags to summarise the story so far! Each child has a copy of the book to follow along, which has been great for building reading confidence.

Our Science lessons have been all about muscles! We explored how they help our bodies move and were fascinated to learn that the strongest muscle in the body is the masseter (the jaw muscle!).

In Music, we have been developing our composition skills alongside our brilliant sessions with Mr. Gordon. We created pentatonic melodies on the glockenspiel, inspired by the traditional music of Chinese New Year. Next week, we’ll add percussion instruments and perform our pieces for our classmates!

Our moving puppets in Art are coming along beautifully—it's wonderful to see the children's creativity shine! Finally, in PSHE, we had important discussions about resilience, learning how to break problems into smaller, achievable goals. The children showed incredible empathy while sharing their own fears and worries.

We’re so proud of the fantastic learning happening in Year 3.

Have a wonderful weekend.

The Year 3 Team 😊

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
