Year 3 Weekly Blog 7.2.25

Date: 7th Feb 2025 @ 12:14pm

Another busy, and brilliant week in Year 3!

This week, we’ve launched an exciting new whole-school reading initiative. Each week, one child from each class will bring home a special ‘reading scrapbook’ to complete and return. The task is to fill in one page, sharing a favourite story and explaining why it’s so meaningful to them. We encourage artwork and snippets of thoughtful writing to highlight the best parts of the book. Please return the book in the bag after a few days. We can’t wait to read through all the wonderful pages as a class.

In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of mass, using weighing scales to measure in grams and kilograms. We worked hard to read the mass accurately on the dials, learning how to compare and record different weights.

In English, we mastered the use of determiners "a" and "an", making sure we chose the correct one depending on whether the next word started with a vowel or a consonant – for example, a rock and an open box.

In Science, we investigated different animals, their diets, and how the food they eat helps them survive in their habitats. It was amazing to discover how different species rely on their diets to stay strong, healthy, and well-adapted to where they live.

We all really enjoyed a fantastic assembly with Mr Green all about Mental Health Week and the importance of looking after our minds. We learned that "My Mind Matters", and it’s so important to talk about how we feel.

In Art, we completed our moving puppets! Each child has worked so hard to build an animal puppet and use split pins to bring their creations to life. The children even designed a stunning background in their sketchbooks using coloured pencils to create a fantastic animation effect.

Finally, we ended the week celebrating NSPCC Number Day on Friday. Everyone had fun wearing mufti, taking part in a number-themed assembly, and competing in a special TTRockstars tournament on the Chromebooks! All whilst raising money for a very important cause.

We look forward to next week where we will learn more about mass in Maths, solving word problems involving addition and subtraction of mass, whilst also strengthening our 3, 4 and 8 times tables. We look forward to taking part in Safer Internet Day, exploring how to stay safe and make smart choices online.

Parents Evening slots are now available on the Spider Parent App. Please make sure to book your appointment — we’re excited to share all of your child’s fantastic work with you!

Don’t forget, our last day of term is Friday, 14th February, and we will finish at the usual time of 2:55pm.

Have a wonderful weekend.

The Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
