Year 3 Weekly Blog (9. 10. 20)

Date: 8th Oct 2020 @ 10:13am

10.10.20

This week we have harnessed our inner scientist and carried out an investigation looking for shadow patterns throughout the day. We put a metre stick inside a traffic cone and at regular intervals during the day we went outside to see if the shadow created by the metre stick had changed. We measured the length of the shadow and looked at the direction it was pointing. What did we discover? Ask your child all about it.

Within maths we have begun to work on our subtraction skills following on from the previous 2 weeks of addition. Homework this week is a mixture of simple column addition and subtraction. The children will have to look carefully at the mathematical symbol to ensure they are carrying out the correct calculation.

On Tuesday we all worked hard running (or walking) our daily mile. The children cheered each other on and offered encouragement to one another. It was really lovely to see and we were extremely lucky with the weather.

Next week we will be thinking of our Year 3 Christian value of Thankfulness. The week will be based around this value and Harvest. Usually at this time of the year we would be up and down to church preparing for our Harvest service but due to the current situation we will be unable to present this live in church. However, we will be working hard in school to create a service that we will video and put on the school website for you to watch together as a family. If your child has requested a speaking part they will be bringing home their line(s) to learn.

Also, continuing with the Harvest theme, a big ‘Thank You’ to everyone who sent in a donation this week!

At home if anyone uses Persil washing liquid and has any of the little rubber liquid dispensers getting in the way then we would love them in school. We have found they make excellent individual water pots during Art and due to them being rubber they tend to stick well to the tables meaning less spills!

Finally, have a lovely weekend. Enjoy the darker nights and take the opportunity to snuggle up and have some family time.

See you on Monday,

The Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
