Year 3 Weekly Blog 18.10.24

Date: 18th Oct 2024 @ 6:36pm

What a fantastic week we've had in Year 3!

We kicked off by diving into adverbs, learning how these words add extra detail to verbs. The children enjoyed exploring how adverbs tell us how, when, and where actions happen — words like "quickly," "yesterday," and "outside" are just a few examples. We’ve had some fun thinking up sentences and spotting adverbs in our reading.

In maths, we've been mastering subtracting with renaming (or "borrowing"). The children have worked hard to break down more complex subtraction problems. For example, in the sum 52 - 18, we learned how to rename a ten to help us subtract from the ones column. It's a tricky concept, but they’re making excellent progress!

On Wednesday, we had a fantastic trip to the woodland area behind St. Luke’s Church for a magical autumnal experience. The children loved the adventure trail, toasting marshmallows on the fire, and creating 3D maps of the area. We took time to explore what we could see, hear, smell, feel, and even taste (the rain!). Although we all got drenched, the children said it was “the best day ever!”

A big thank you to all the parents who attended our first Parents' Evening this week. It was lovely to catch up and talk about your children’s progress. We look forward to seeing those of you who have appointments on Wednesday evening.

Looking ahead to next week, we’ll be ending a wonderful Autumn term with a focus on Design Technology (DT). The children will be whipping up some delicious seasonal recipes while discussing where in the world and what climates our food comes from. It’s set to be a tasty week!

Homework:

  • Two tasks have been set on Doodle Maths to reinforce what we’ve been learning in class.
  • Please also access Doodle Spelling to consolidate those important Year 1 and 2 common exception words.
  • Both classes are also really enjoying our ongoing TT Rockstars league — please encourage them to keep up the practice at home!

Don’t forget, our last day of term is Thursday 24th October, and we will finish at the usual time of 3:20pm.

Have a wonderful weekend, everybody.

The Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
