Year 5 blog 10/12

Date: 10th Dec 2021 @ 1:28pm

This week we finished our class novel "Street Child," only to discover that it was a true story and that Jim was the inspiration for Dr Barnardo setting up his children's homes for destitute children.

We continued line graphs in maths, focussing on drawing line graphs to represent 3 sets of data.

On wednesday we had our Victorian school day and the children loved experiencing what life in school was like 150 years ago. There are lots of pictures on the website for you to see what we got up: maths with pounds, shillings and pence, times table practice, on the spot spellings, annunciation lessons, writing on slates, copy books, singing the national anthem, drill  and the occassional dunces hat.

Next week we start the making of our Moving Victorian toys, using a cam mechanism. You should have received a letter about this.

On Sunday at 4pm it is Christingle at Church and our Y5 choir children will be performing. it would be lovely to see some of you there.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
