Year 5 Blog - 14/2/25
Date: 14th Feb 2025 @ 6:11pm
This week, 5W had their Golden Ticket celebration which was a great way to begin the week.
The Y5 play is now fully up and running. All the children know their important roles and rehearsals are now ramping up.
Mrs Morris also came in and practised some of the dance moves with the villagers and sailors; Mr Williams even joined in, and looked like he was thoroughly enjoying himself!
In maths the children have been turning their knowledge of fractions into decimals. They have taken this in their stride and shown great resilience to overcome initial obstacles.
On Tuesday, it was Safer Internet Day and the children took part in an interactive live BBC lesson which covered scamming, phishing and password protection. We also discussed how important it is to use privacy settings and to ensure that we are careful with what information we share online.
During our ‘puberty’ lessons, we examined emotional changes and what these can look like as well as how we can best manage them. The children have been absolutely brilliant during all of our sessions.
Practising for our Brass Concert continues to improve and the children are excited to be performing in front of an audience on the first Tuesday back after half term.
5W enjoyed their final swimming session in their PJs during their survival skills session. Jamie, our instructor, has been absolutely fantastic over the last 6 weeks and all of the children have responded brilliantly to him.
5H were sad to have to end their Dodgeball unit of work, which is always seen as one of the favourites.
In history, the children learnt about Danegeld and ‘paying to Dane to go away’, which wasn’t a very wise choice (as agreed by the children) of the then King Ethelred ‘the unready’. They also looked at crime and punishment and were thankful that they didn’t live back in the 10th Century!
All it takes now, is to wish you all a safe, restful and enjoyable half term and we look forward to seeing you back at school for the beginning of Spring 2.
From all of us in Year 5.
