Year 5 Blog - 14/3/25

Date: 14th Mar 2025 @ 3:51pm

Wow! I don’t know about you but the children all said that this week has flown by, and I would tend to agree with them.

Pirates is well and truly coming together and all of the children have made us extremely proud with their efforts this week. Next week will be putting it all together, with the songs, dances, props, lighting, backdrops and sound effects.

In addition to all the rehearsals, we have been busy with all our other subjects.

In maths, we have learnt about percentages and how they are linked with fractions and decimals. Did you know that 25% is the same as ¼ and 0.25 and that per cent comes from the Latin: per centum.

In English, we have continued with our ‘Gorilla’ writing topic and have been focussing in on relative clauses, adverbial phrases and dialogue.

In science, we have been investigating reversible and irreversible changes and looked at how burning is irreversible and produces different materials which can’t be turned back into the original material.

In guided reading we continued with our inference and deduction skills and examined the Listeners poem looking for evidence to support our answers. The children enjoyed using highlighter pens to find their evidence.

In RE, we examined the victory ot Jesus’ death and how his resurrection was his Father's clear signal that Jesus is the powerful Son of God who has conquered death and reigns as Lord of all. The children then thought about how this great news would be communicated if it happened now, in the form of newspaper headlines, Twitter feeds, Facebook posts, hashtags #

In PE, 5H are enjoying their swimming lessons as 5W work on their strength and conditioning sessions (AKA yoga). In outdoor games, the children are working on their ‘handball’ passing and moving skills and beginning to play small sided games.

It’s due to be a sunny weekend, so enjoy the great outdoors if you are able to.

The Year 5 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
