What a doodly week it's been!

As part of Science week, we decided to link in our DT topic, making motorised doodlers. The children had a wonderful time using their knowledge of electrical circuits from Y4 to design and make their very own doodler. They first, investigated ready made doodlers and took them apart to see how they worked. They then tinkered around with the components to see how that would affect how the doodler worked before designing and building their own.

On Thursday, we had a Silly Science event in the hall, where the scientist performed lots of wierd and wonderful experiments. As you can see from one of the photos, it was a 'flamming' success!

In class on Friday, we tested the children's understanding of materials and their properties by setting up a range of stations for the children to investigate: solubility, transparency, hardness, conductivity and magnetism. Each activity prompted lots of useful discussion and had  the children using their scientific vocabulary.

In maths, we completed our decimals unit of work. Our new unit will be percentages. Maths homelearning this week will once again be set on the Doodle maths platform.

In writing we completed our sentence stacking work based on the book Gorilla, and the children have planned their own piece: writing the story from the gorilla's perspective. Today, they began their writing and will complete it on Monday.

Well done to Scott, Estella and Millie for representing school so well at the Sefton Schools' Cross Country League race on Tuesday.

Have a happy weekend,

The Year 5 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
