Year 5 Blog 29.4.22

Date: 3rd May 2022 @ 7:48am

This week, we have designed some Viking shields using the traditional colours red, yellow, blue and brown for natural wood. We also wrote our names in Viking runes and a secret message to our friends using runes! In maths, we have been drawing angles accurately, over and below 90 degrees and measuring them with protractors. In guided reading, we have been reading the text “Beowulf: An Epic Poem” and it is about a monster that attacks the great hall in Denmark. In history, we have been looking at are Vikings savage or civil? as well as Anglo-Saxon laws and justice seeing if punishments in the past are fair or unfair. In RE we have been looking at places to worship, such as churches and synagogues  and what you might find in places to worship, such as crosses, fonts and candles.

This week's blog was written by Olivia and Faye in 5LH

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
