What a super quick week it has been!

We have thoroughly enjoyed welcoming the children back to school and to a new year group. We also welcome our new pupils, who have settled into their new school so well.

We began the week getting to know each other and have managed to fit in all of our holiday news stories. We also composed our own class charters to follow so as to make our classrooms a perfect learning environment and to ensure the children can maximise their potential.

During PSHE we looked at things in our lives that we would like to improve upon and then created our Hands f Hope display. We will regularly reflect upon these hopes and share how we are progressing.

We began our PE lessons on Wednesday and had a really productive basketball session outside on the playground. The children were able to remember skills learnt last year and strategies that could be transferred from other invasion games they had been taught.

In guided reading we looked at Fairtrade and how it helps farmers in countries around the world. This linked to Central America, namely Mexico, as this was one of the countries that the ancient Maya lived and built their powerful cities.

We are studying the Maya civilisation this half term and the children were introduced to where they lived and when the civilisation began and ceased to be.

They used atlases to locate continents, oceans and key countries, and timelines to compare other civilisations and invasions/settlements both in the UK and the rest of the World.

In maths we have been extending our learning of reading and writing numbers from 5 digit to 6 digit. We’ve also been ordering a range of digits to find the smallest and largest numbers.

We have finished the week with glorious sunshine and wish you all a safe and enjoyable weekend.

The Year 5 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
