Year 5 Weekly Blog 10.3.23
Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 2:32pm
What a day of two halves it's been today! As you can see from the photos, we all had a fun time in the snow before it decided to disappear rather rapidly.
This week we have been busy planning for our own piece of writing, inspired by the poem by Walter De La Mare - The Listeners. Most of us finally finished writing it today and are rather pleased with how well we managed to create tension through our word choices. We also created our own front cover for our stories and can't wait to share them with you at the upcoming Parent/Teacher meetings.
In Maths, we took our decimal fractions work to the next level and explored how these can be represented as fractions. 25/100 = 1/4 = 0.25 = 25% Do you know how the fraction : 7/20 would be presented as a decimal and a percentage?
We had a fun art day on Tuesday where we took our set design plans and used our creativity to produce the finished piece. It was great to see lots of problem solving taking place along with positive comments being shared relating to others' work.
In RE, We discussed how Easter for Christians is a time of victory before exploring the Easter story in a variety of forms: from children's books, to annotated videos, to the four gospels. Next week, we will play being detectives and spot words/phrases in the Gospels that are related to victory.
5H had Mr Williams deliver a rather relaxing Yoga lesson in PE, whilst 5W welcomed another group of Y12 Range High students who despite the sleet managed to teach their PE lesson under the watchful eye of Miss Heath and their PE teacher, Mr Cropper. The children have been absolutely fabulous during these sessions and responded well under the direction of the students.
Preparations for the production are now really hotting up and Mrs Morris has been putting the dancers through their paces and has reported that we are the best group she has worked with! Isn't it lovely to receive a compliment like that? The singing, with actions, acting, and props are all shaping up well too, and even though we have a number of disruptions coming up in the coming weeks, we are still planning on putting on a great entertaining performance.
To cap off a lovely week and an extra special snow morning, the sun shone brightly just in time for our 'finding signs of Spring' walk around the school grounds with our Y1 buddies. It is so lovely seeing them interacting with one another and sharing in the love of learning.
Enjoy your weekend and stay safe.
From the Year 5 Team.
