Year 5 Weekly Blog 10.6.22

Date: 10th Jun 2022 @ 3:02pm

This week in Maths we focused on converting cm into inches and g into kg. We also did the mass of objects - writing them into decimals.

In science we learned about the different parts of flowers and how new plants are reproduced. We got pollen on our fingers and rubbed it on another flower to try cross pollination.

In DT we figured out how pop up books are made. We also watched tutorial videos on how to make them to display our York photos. We had a trial of lots of different mechanisms:

  • Sliders
  • Spirals
  • Automatic pull stips
  • V folds

We can’t wait to start designing and making our books next week.

We also had a picnic to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and to celebrate her seventy years on the throne.

In PE we practised our problem solving skills. We tried fun games to complete tasks, which were hard to solve, one of them being a blindfolded game, directing our partner through coned gates using farmyard animal noises only and another being to complete challenges on a bench without falling off.

This weeks blog had been written by Elliot and Kamran in 5J.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
