Year 5 Weekly Blog (13. 11. 20)

Date: 12th Nov 2020 @ 2:25pm

This week in Year 5 we have continued our topic "Street Child," learning all about life in a Victorian workhouse, after Jim Jarvis the main character in our class novel, was taken to the workhouse after becoming an orphan. The children produced the most beautiful history work, demonstrating what they had learnt with the most fantastic presentation and knowledge. They also wrote deeply emotional letters as Jim, explaining the tragic news to his sisters, that their Ma had died. The children's use of abstract nouns created the most powerful letters that many Year 5 staff had tears in their eyes.

In maths, we have now completed the multiplication part of Chapter 3 MNP and move on to division.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
