Year 5 Weekly Blog (16. 10. 20)

Date: 13th Oct 2020 @ 2:21pm

This week we have continued to delve deeply into the poem "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes, with lots of drama activities including hot seating and still photographs. The children are really understanding the meaning beyond the written word. In art, we have continued to look at the work of Charles Keeping, using charcoal to recreate his pictures in our own style. In history, we looked at how we learn about the past and how the lost Maya cities were discovered, including a very special powerpoint of pictures and talk from Mrs Edger, whose son Mark produced a fantastic documentary for Channel 4 on the Mayans, where he joined an expedition in Mexico to uncover hidden relics and temples. She showed us pictures of his expedition and told us about the fantastic discoveries. Next week we will watch the documentary and see the pictures in film.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
