Year 5 Weekly Blog - 28/2/25

Date: 28th Feb 2025 @ 5:32pm

First week back, the sun is shining and it definitely feels like Spring is in the air!

This week, we kicked off our ‘Changes’ topic with trip down Y4 memory lane looking at states of matter and the changes associated with it. We explored examples of evaporation and condensation and experiments will follow over the coming weeks.

In maths, the children continued their work on decimals and learnt how to convert fractions to decimals, and add/subtract decimals. We now all love decimals!

In English it was the start of our new book – Gorilla by Anthony Browne. The children have been using a variety of devices to set the scene and produced some gripping openers.

The Y5 play rehearsals are now in full swing in the hall and the children are developing their characters brilliantly. The audience is certainly in for a treat!

Tuesday afternoon was a musical affair, with all of Y5 entertaining their buddies, Y4 and parents/carers and other family members. The children performed a brass concert to showcase everything they have learnt over the last two years of playing a brass instrument. A big thank you goes out to Mrs Hughes (music teacher) who has taught both the children and the teachers.

In RE, as part of our Easter theme, the children learnt about the ‘Fall’ and how Jesus’ death marked a victory in reconciling the relationship between God and his people.

In PE, the children learnt to relax using a range of poses. These also helped to stretch and strengthen muscles, and improve balance.

Next week 5H will begin their 6 week block of swimming lessons and 5W will continue their Yoga sessions.

For outdoor PE, the children began their handball unit of work and worked on their passing and receiving techniques.

The sun is shining and we wish you all a very happy, relaxing and safe weekend.

See you all next week.

All of us in Year 5.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
