Year 6 Blog 24.10.24

Date: 24th Oct 2024 @ 4:12pm

What a fantastic last 2 weeks we have had in Year 6 leading up to half-term. The children have all kept up their Never Give Up attitudes as we have finalised our learning in many topics. In English, we have edited and published our explanation texts on the circulatory system, as well as reviewing some grammar aspects from previous years' learning. We have also started some speaking and listening activities in preparation for our Remembrance service; more details on this to follow.

In maths, we have started to study fractions, looking at comparing and ordering fractions and mixed numbers, as well as addition and subtraction of mixed numbers. In music, we have composed a piece of clapping music with partners and performed them to the class, varying dynamics, tempo and phrase length to great effect.

We have continued to finalise the designs of our cereal boxes in art before critiquing our work and commenting on others designs. We have also written a letter to Lily - a girl who has lost her dog, Dill - helping her by explaining the different beliefs of the afterlife, summarising our learning in RE, following on from the visit from Reverend Matt last week.

While there is no formal Home Learning set, we would advise children to keep on practising key skills (times-tables, spelling, reading etc.) little and often over the week off. We hope that they all have a well deserved break.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
