Year 6 Weekly Blog

Date: 21st Jun 2024 @ 1:53pm

This week, Year 6 have really been working their socks off in their final week before the adventure of Dearne Valley. The children have written some fantastic horror stories, inspired by our build-up writing on the novel Thornhill.

In maths, we have been consolidating our learning from earlier in the year to avoid slippage. It might seem a while off yet but high school will be upon the children soon so it is never the wrong time to support them at home with maintaining and revisiting their learning. This can be done with a supportive adult or even by encouraging them to occasionally still use resources that are school are paying for such as Times-Tables Rockstars or Doodle, which covers maths, spelling and grammar/punctuation. The children have also continued their design-technology projects on moving toys and we will be finishing these before the end of the year.

In preparation for our visit to Dearne Valley, we ask that you and your children arrive at school around 10:30am, to make an 11:00am departure successful. Your child will know who their group leader is so please come into the Year 6 classrooms, and ensure everything is in order before waiting by the coach. Any over-the-counter or prescription medication that your child will need (e.g. travel sickness tablets for the return journey on Wednesday) must be clearly labelled and discussed with your child’s group leader so that any necessary medical forms can be completed before departure. Any prescription medication but have a medical label from the dispensary that has their name on it.

As an aside, we’d all like to thank Miss Walker who has completed her teaching placement today. She has worked primarily within 6H, but she has also taught 6G on occasion and the children loved her. We wish her luck on the next step of her journey.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday and wish you a restful few days whilst we have lots of fun in, hopefully, the sun.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
