Year 2 Weekly Blog (09.09.22)

Date: 9th Sep 2022 @ 2:24pm

We have had a lovely first week in Year 2, the children are all settling in wonderfully!

We've been super busy getting to know each other with some exciting games. The children particuarly enjoyed their classmate scavenger hunt! We enjoyed discussing all our holiday news and looking up our holiday locations on google maps.

In Maths we have been looking at place value and using our dienes this week. The children have been looking at comparing numbers by looking at tens and ones and questioning if they're greater or smaller.

We began looking at this terms topic 'Where we live' and have been investigating different types of maps. The children have been putting their map skills to the test with their favourite game 'find the toy'. We looked at maps of the classroom as well as the whole school, and went on a walk around school, plotting different things onto our own maps.

We explored the lovely story of 'Harry's Home' this week and the children have been comparing the differences between the countryside and the city. In Art, we looked at different artists who 'explore, collect and create' and then thought of the types of materials we could find at the beach to create art with. Some of the children sketched a lovely beach scene and some sketched different types of treasure they may find at the beach. We carried this beach theme into our Music lesson where the children created a beach soundscape using their voices, body percussion and instruments.

The children were extremely excited to get to go to the newly finished outdoor ROLA. We had a lot of fun exploring the new area before the new reception children begin next week.

Have a lovely weekend from all the Year 2 team!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
